A very handy tool that is being used by everybody is a measuring tape. Nobody knows why and when they started possessing a
measuring tape but it is present with everyone. So what is a measuring tape and why do we need them? A measuring tape is a tool which is nothing but a flexible form of a ruler. It is difficult to
use a ruler in all angles or corners. This purpose is solved by a measuring tape.
This werkzeug (tool in English) which
looks very simple is very useful. It can be made out of almost any material – cloth, fibre, and plastic, metal and also fibre glass. It is used to measure almost everything and thus its size
varies from one which can be carried in a pocket to as long as three hundred feet. Measuring tapes come in different forms also. There are ones which needs to be pulled out manually and after
measuring needs to be rounded up manually. On the other hand there are tapes, popularly known as carpenter’s tape or construction tape, which has a hook at the starting point which can be
attached to the substance being measured and it gets retracted automatically when the measurement is done. A measuring tape also has markings depending on which place it belongs to. Smaller tapes
have markings in inches and centimetres whereas the bigger ones have marking in feet and metres.
Measuring tapes are very useful whether one is making a dress, measuring a curtain or are in the field doing a survey. It is a
tool that can come handy in any situation.
